Craniosacral Therapy
Healing through stillness
“You are not a drop in the ocean, you are the entire ocean in a drop” – Rumi
Craniosacral Therapy is a gentle non-invasive and holistic treatment in support of whole body health and healing. Its an approach that touches many levels of our experience and at the same time is firmly grounded in the anatomy of the body. It may be used for the prevention and treatment of disease and enhancement of health.
It is a treatment modality that had been developed out of osteopathy by Dr. WIlliam G Sutherland during the early 19th century. Initially, focus was placed on the central nervous system, anatomy, physiology of the cranium, cerebrospinal fluid and their inter relationship with the body as a whole. Today, the treatment has developed even further to include a knowledge and understanding of how to release tension in all body tissues, muscles, joints, vertebrae, and organs through connective tissue (fascia) and how these structures are linked through that very same tissue.
Through the offering of deep presence and safety the system is gently brought to stillness. From there it is listened to through a very light handed touch and is assisted to a place where the body’s innate capacity for healing and rejuvenation can occur.
This gentle present touch enhances the body’s ability to observe itself and bring awareness to areas that need healing. Tensions will unwind through all of the layers of yourself and a new level of deep rest in the body, mind and emotional being helps the body to make self corrections that will move you towards a more optimal health on all levels.
As a therapist I use my listening skills, presence and knowledge about anatomy, embryology, and the life forces that are felt throughout the body through different motions, to support healing.
Craniosacral therapy can help with physical, as well as emotional and mental disturbances.
Common reasons people seek out this therapy include stress management, trauma release, chronic pain, injuries, digestive issues, nervous system issues, anxiety, depression, sleeping problems, emotional clarity, headaches, migraines, etc. Many also seek this treatment for opening up more in the heart and on a spiritual level which also aids in physical healing.
After a treatment, the client will often experience deep relaxation, clarity and grounding. Some people will find the treatment very subtle and some may experience stronger sensations.
